Quick Tip!
Hi all. Was just thinking about you. A tip for Situational Writing:If writing an informal letter to a relative (or friend) overseas, please do not use the following phrase:
"I heard it's cold over there. Don't forget to wear more clothes/put on more clothes."
That is a phrase that's probably been directly translated from Mandarin (chuan duo jian yi fu - not bAd eh?). So, instead, use this:
"I heard the weather's really chilly over there. Don't forgot to keep yourself warm!"

but it doesnt make sense. i mean keeping yourself warm is like a natural thing. its like dont forget to eat. rite??? hahaha

it's like just a gesture of concern to say that.. What my point was, many students write, "don't forget to wear more clothes" which is a very direct translation from Chinese.

What? Did you mean people often say, "Wear more clothes?" That's like implying the other person wears very skimpy clothing!

haha!! i mean like in cold places.. or overseas or wad. are you sure wear more clothes is like direct translation? its sounds right, or does it? maybe put on more clothes sounds better..

No, "wear more clothes" or "put on more clothes" is a direct translation - understandable in local context, but alien to Westerners. That's why I said, instead of writing that, use the phrase, "keep yourself warm". :D got it?
